Summer RV Camping in Florida: Beat the Heat
Lower rates, cool springs and a few simple tricks for a comfortable summer stay.
Summer RV camping in Florida gets a bad rap, but it's one of the best-kept secrets on the Nature Coast. Parks are quieter, rates are lower, and the springs feel amazing when it's hot outside. With a little planning, a summer stay at Quail Roost RV Park in Crystal River is easy and fun.
Why come in summer?
- Lower rates. Our summer season runs May 1 through October 31, with nightly, weekly and monthly rates below winter prices. See the rates page for current numbers.
- More open sites. It's easier to get the spot you want.
- Cool springs. Spring water stays around 72 degrees all year. On a hot day, it feels perfect.
- Scallop season. Summer is when Citrus County opens for bay scallops.
Keep your RV cool
- Pick shade. We have wooded sites under mature trees. Ask about them when you book.
- Use reflective window covers on the sunny side of your rig.
- Run the awning to shade your walls and windows.
- Clean your AC filters before your trip, and check them again every few weeks.
- Cook outside or early. The oven heats up a small space fast.
- Plug into 50 amp if your rig supports it, so you can run more than one AC unit.
Plan around the afternoon storms
Summer afternoons in Florida often bring a short thunderstorm. They usually roll through and clear out. Do your outdoor plans in the morning, keep an eye on the radar, and pull in your awning before the wind picks up. Hurricane season runs June through November, so follow local weather and have a plan if a storm heads our way.
Best ways to cool off nearby
- Float the Rainbow River in Dunnellon.
- Kayak the spring runs of Kings Bay.
- Go scalloping in the shallow Gulf.
- Take a dip in our heated pool at the park. It's 20 by 50 feet and open year-round.
Stay healthy in the heat
Drink more water than you think you need. Wear a hat and sunscreen. Do your walking and bike riding early or after the sun goes down. If you ever need care, the closest hospital is about 5 miles from the park.
