Planning Your Florida Winter at a Snowbird RV Park
What to look for in a winter RV park, and how a season at the Roost works.
Choosing between snowbird RV parks in Florida can feel like a big decision. You're picking a home for the whole winter, not just a place to park for a night. The right park has good sites, friendly neighbors, things to do and services close by. At Quail Roost RV Park in Crystal River, many of our winter guests come back year after year. Here's what we've learned about planning a great Florida winter.
What to look for in a winter RV park
- Full hookups. Water, sewer and 30/50 amp electric at your site make a long stay much easier.
- Room to spread out. Our open and wooded sites average 32 to 40 feet wide and fit any size rig.
- Clean bath houses and laundry. You'll use them more than you think over a whole season.
- A real social calendar. Potlucks, bingo, line dancing and holiday dinners turn neighbors into friends.
- Healthcare nearby. At Quail Roost, the closest hospital is about 5 miles away.
How winter booking works at Quail Roost
Our winter season runs November 1 through April 30. Winter stays need a minimum 6-month booking, and you save 5% when you pay a 6-month stay in full. Monthly guests pay their own electric. Reservations hold a site in the park, though not always a specific site. We honor preferences whenever we can.
See current numbers on our rates page. Winter fills up, so call early in the fall to hold your spot.
Why winter in Crystal River?
Crystal River is known as the Manatee Capital of the World. Each winter, hundreds of manatees move into the warm springs of Kings Bay. You can watch them from the boardwalk at Three Sisters Springs or go on a guided tour. Beyond the manatees, you'll find golf courses, fishing, bike trails, the Gulf, and small-town festivals all winter long.
The weather helps too. Winter days on the Nature Coast are mostly mild and sunny. And because the park sits about 40 feet above sea level, we don't have No-See-Ums.
Life at the Roost all season
Our campers keep the calendar full. There's bingo, card games, darts, shuffleboard, horseshoes, exercise classes and swimming in our heated 20 by 50 foot pool. The air-conditioned clubhouse has a dance floor, and the Rec Hall has a fireplace, a library and your mailbox. We celebrate every holiday together, from Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner to the Super Bowl party and St. Patrick's Day dinner.
You can be as busy as you want to be. Or just sit back and enjoy the weather.
Plan ahead
- Call by early fall to ask about winter openings.
- Look at the park map to see the open and wooded sites.
- Set up mail and any prescriptions to follow you south.
- Pack for cool mornings. January nights can dip into the 40s.
